Bark for thought

An old friend of mine said this to me today:

"Haven't we learned that it's dangerous to leave the rights of a minority to the will of a majority?"

And she's right. It is dangerous. But what about when the stars align and a progressive initiative (like the one on the ballot last night in the State of Maine) is passed, not by the will of a state legislature... but by the will of the people?

Progress may have hit a bump in the road last night, but eventually a majority vote will break down this stupid, out-dated wall that's standing in the way.
